About us

Adair Shetland Sheepdogs is a small hobby Sheltie breeder located in northern Missouri. Shelties have had a role in our lives since 1980. Like many breeders, we fell in love with the breed by owning a pet quality sheltie first. It was years later, I became interested in purchasing a quality breeding dog. After reading books/magazines and attending shows, I found myself drawn to the dogs from the Peter/Reflection crosses. My search for such a dog, led me to our foundation bitch, Carmylie Rocky Knoll Teela, (Carmylie Shelties). Teela was a lovely red sable and sables were and still are, my true love. Through the years, we have maintained our sable “ness” with an occasional touch of the other sheltie colors.

Adair’s breeding goals are producing shelties of good health and breed type. As a breeder and owner, the present and future genetic health of our dogs and of the breed is very important. We test for the following: hip dysplasia, thyroid, eye disease, vWd and the MDR1 gene. The elements of sheltie breed type are: breed character, outline, head/expression, structure /movement and coat and these are the things we see. Health and breed type are high priorities for us.

Puppies are born in our home and all companion (pet quality) puppies are sold with AKC limited registration and spay/neuter contracts. Every puppy is vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed, before leaving at 8 to 10 weeks of age. All dogs are sold with a hereditary health guarantee.

We ask for referrals for all show and breeding quality dogs. We reserve the right of refusal of sale, to anyone, for any reason.

Here at Adair, we delight in knowing that our dogs are loyal, sensible, intelligent, and a joy to own. We invite you to take a few minutes and visit our web home. Your inquiries are always welcome. Visits are scheduled by appointments, only.
